Sunbeam
School- Impacting Lives with Real Experiences
3-day Adventure Camp ends on National Defence Day
They
Came. They Saw. They Conquered.
Like
the previous year, this year too Sunbeam Group of Educational Institutions
organised a three- day Leadership Adventure Camp at Sunbeam School, Varuna from
01 March. Around 350 students from Sunbeam Schools Annapurna, Lahartara and
Varuna participated in the camp with an idea to instill confidence, build
stamina, fight out the fear within and develop the idea of sharing and team
work amongst the peer group. To add to the importance of the camp, some of the
students of Sunbeam Autism Centre also took active part in the event and
completed few of the laid out obstacles with great excitement.
Organised
under the direct supervision of professional experts of Altitudes Expeditions
and the teachers of the participating schools, the camp instructors acclamatised
the participants with the obstacles, which would otherwise look to be a
difficult task for them. The experts helped the participants overcome their
fear of heights and balance and made them smile at the end of each obstacle
that they completed. In order to have a level playing field, the participants
were segmented into three broad divisions. From Nursery to Class I, classes II
to V and classes VI and upwards.
Day
one of the camp saw around 108 beaming kids with excitement running all over as
they touched and felt the obstacles that were made in the Basketball arena-
Spardah and in the school sports field. The kids were amazed to see obstacles like
Burma Bridge, Bamboo Ladder, Parallel Ropes, Net Crossing, Descending
and Flying Fox. For them names did not matter. What mattered most was the
opportunity to get into action as the instructors wanted them to, one by one.
For kids like Dharya, Manas, and Sharnya it was a lifetime achievement- of
completing all obstacles. This adventure camp created a strong confidence, energized
and raised their bar of physical endurance and made then realize the benefits of
team workWhile the difficulty levels of the existing obstacles were increased for
students of classes II to V and for classes VI and upwards, some new obstacles
like Tyrolean Traverse, swinging ladder, net climbing were also added to the
existing ones.
Day
2 and 3 also witnessed similar overtones of excitement and expectations. Some
steady and some jittery legs formed the groups as the students tried onto these
obstacle one after another. It was to be seen to be believed. While the juniors
weaved magic on ropes with the help of professional experts, the senior
participants could be seen negotiating the obstacles like ‘River Crossing’ crawling
over strong ropes cutting across the serene and blue waters of the school
swimming pool at Sportonix,
These
obstacles not only helped the students realise their degree physical stamina
and courage, but also made them learn the best practices of sharing while
negotiating difficult situations.
The
Deputy Director of the Sunbeam Group of Educational Institutions,Mrs. Amrita
Burman, said that Sunbeam schools do not just restrict its
students to academic education, it also emphasises
