On Day 1 of ASPIRATIONS 2025
On Day 1 of ASPIRATIONS 2025, students of Sunbeam Annapurna embarked on a deeply enriching Exploratory Heritage Walk through the historic lanes of Maidagin — an experience curated and led by the Knowledge Resource Curator Mr. Mukherjee P.
The walk began at the Nagari Pracharini Sabha, a cornerstone of literary and cultural revival in Banaras. From there, students journeyed through the heart of Maidagin, absorbing the pulse of a city where every brick tells a story.
At the Bharatendu Harishchandra Memorial Park, they reflected on the contributions of the 'father of modern Hindi literature'. The focus of the walk was a comparative study of heritage buildings — particularly the architectural grandeur of Queens College of Benaras, now known as Sampurnanand Sanskrit University.
They explored the unique design elements of Nagari Pracharini Sabha’s structure, delved into the historic library premises, visited the Book Fair, and took in the quiet charm of the nearby Mandakini Kund.
Throughout the walk, discussions touched upon the diverse lenses through which Banaras has been viewed — from James Prinsep’s Banaras to Mirza Ghalib’s Banaras
The journey concluded near the statue of Babu Shyam Sundar Das, a visionary who made invaluable contributions to the development of the Hindi language.
